FATHER LAWRENCE E. BANFIELD, O.P.

The “Old Pro” among parish mission preachers in the West, Father Larry Banfield is, as he describes it, a native of an Indian village--Chicago!--although he was raised in a small town in Wisconsin and in Washington D.C. as the son of a military physician.

After attending Providence College, where he came into contact with the Dominican friars, he entered the Order at Ross, California in 1935.  He completed his seminary training at St. Albert’s in Oakland and was ordained in 1941.

For over forty years, Fr. Banfield has worked on the Mission Band, living out of a suitcase in season and out.  As a guest of the U.S. military he has preached all over the world.  He is currently assigned to Holy Rosary Priory in Portland, Oregon.
